Description

Hearth Rugs are normally used in front of wood burning fireplaces to protect carpet or wood flooring from embers that pop out of roaring fires.

All the Rugs offered from Minuteman are flame resistant and meet all federal requirements of the CPSC standard FF 1-70 for flammability of carpets.

There are several levels of protection for rugs:

• Fiberglass faced rugs offer the best protection as embers will not burn the fiberglass face of the rug
  
• Wool rugs offer the next best protection as it is a naturally self extinguishing and if it does char, the spot can be rubbed away leaving little visible damage. Being a natural fiber, wool will char but will not melt as will synthetic fibers.
  
• Nylon offers the next level of protection as it has the highest melt point of synthetic fibers used in carpets.
  
• Rugs made with Olefin, Polypropylene and polyester have lower melt temperatures. Embers may produce a melt spot on the rug. As with all embers extreme care should be used when removing and discarding in an approved ash bucket.
